Vila Real da Santo Antonio

The town of Vila Real da Santo Antonio takes its Christmas nativity scene very seriously. On Friday, December 28, my good friends and favourite tour guides, Randy and Marc, took me to see the installation that stays in place until the arrival of the Magi commemorated in the Feast of the Epiphany. It was a beautiful, scenic journey through the countryside with Randy driving. I love it when someone else takes up that task! For the price of half a Euro, anyone can view the nativity scene. I was totally gobsmacked. It was Randy and Marc’s second time this season and they kept remarking on how much they had missed their first time around.

Vila Real da Santo Antonio has lots of activities and attractions. Shopping is one of those activities. Many thanks to Gwen M. for introducing me to the best outlet shop for towels and bathrobes.

Cacela Vehla

Our next stop on Friday, was the village of Cacela Vehla where we had lunch and a bit of an afternoon walk around. The restaurant menu, in Portuguese and English, translated the Portuguese for sole to razor clams in English. My goal is to eat as much seafood as possible while I’m here and I was looking forward to the razor clams. The unexpected sole, however, was delicious.
