Saying goodbye, particularly when you’re having a wonderful time, is rarely easy. Friday, January 24 was our last full day in Tavira so we didn’t waste much time sitting around.
Marc and Randy drove in from Estoi and we all headed off for lunch to the same restaurant where Terry and I had been earlier in the week. It did not disappoint. Although it was a dull, cool , rainy day, the restaurant filled up quickly with a lunch time crowd.
We headed off for some shopping and general site seeing after lunch and got a group shot of my wonderful friends on the Roman Bridge.
Following Randy and Marc’s departure, we managed to fit in a visit to a local photography museum owned and operated by the great grandson of Luis Andrade one of the first photographers to set up shop in Tavira. The Andrade family business existed for decades and in the process created a pictorial treasure trove of local history.
To cap off our stay in Tavira, we decided to revisit a restaurant we had visited earlier. It’s on a side street not far from the market.

The food is delicious and the prices excellent although only cash payments are accepted.
After a leisurely dinner, we ambled out to the new bridge and caught some shots of the nighttime Tavira skyline.
On our walk along the esplanade in the direction of the apartment the strains of a Mozart opera overture greeted our ears. There was a benefit concert taking place in the former Mercado building. It was presented by the National Police orchestra of Portugal. So, of course, we paid a few euros and joined the audience for an hour of wonderful well performed orchestral music.
And then it was time to return to the apartment and finish the final pack-up in preparation for catching the train to Lisbon on Saturday.
