Museu Nacional do Azulejo

My last day in Lisbon was dedicated to two goals: visit the National Tile Museum and revisit Avenida da Liberdade. The former I had never been to and the latter I had never seen in the springtime . So, I set out in the morning , on foot and walked the avenue. There weren’t;t as many flowers as I had expected but the trees were leafing out quite nicely.

I managed to become satisfyingly lost in my quest to reach the museum on foot. My solution was to ask a very unoccupied taxi driver to take me there and arrived just in time for lunch. They have a very civilized habit of closing from noon until 14H00 but the restaurant was open and the food was excellent! So was the museum that occupies a former convent and church. The actual sanctuary appears to be still in use as a place of worship and was open to visitors. The most interesting part was the temporary display of recent works by female artists. It took me awhile to sort out the message in on one of the pieces.

This was my final full day in Portugal. My month of respite from the Canadian winter was about to end and my voyage across the pond would begin early Friday morning. It was the best kind of flight to have, an uneventful one. As one adventure comes to a close, I look forward to opening the door to more adventures in the future.

Thank you for following, reading and commenting on my blog. Also, thank you to everyone that contributed to my education in the process.

  2. So happy that you loved the Oceanarium and Tile museum as much as I did. Your photos are wonderful….you’re attracted to some of the same pieces as we were. Hope spring greeted you. See you sooner than later I hope. P
