As January gives way to February, Ireland initiates a new state holiday on the first day of the month – Saint Brigid’s Day. Plus, February is my birthday month along with my friends, Randy, Pearl and Clarence – Aquarians all! So, Happy Birthday everyone and let the celebrations begin! CORRECTION: Randy, although born in February, is a Pisces. My apologies for the error.

Marc Thivierge is currently exhibiting some of his works at a gallery in Olhão and the opening vernissage on January 27. It was a prime opportunity to visit the gallery space at Republica 14.

The space itself is a work of art with interesting mosaic tile floors.

There was time to take a rambling tour of the area near the gallery. The murals depict some of the history of the city and are a testament to Olhão’s dedication to the art of telling it’s story.

A daily routine of local walks – one of the benefits of having Jackson here – has developed. In spite of the record cool temperatures, the weather has been sunny and dry and there’s always something new to discover.

Fonte da Benémola
Wednesday February 1 proved a propitious day for a hike with Randy and Joanne at Fonte da Benémola. It’s a relatively easy hike with a slight risk of getting wet feet. It was a first for Jackson and he loved it!

In Estoi on Thursday, Jackson and I made an around the town ramble keeping to the paved roads rather than the mountain trails. Thursday is traditionally a hunting day in the mountains.

And the Algarve adventure continues!
