The place we chose as our abode in Bodrum has a million dollar view of the castle, the twin bays and the city. It’s an exquisitely appointed apartment in a villa situated on a hillside in a gated neighbourhood west of the city centre. A vehicle is required to get there. The weather was favourable to an outdoor breakfast on the patio share with a pair of calico cats: Patches I & II. There will be more photos and a video of the place in a later post.

Once breakfast was over, we decided to check out the Pedasa site we had learned about the day before. In fact, Mahmood had visited the place on a previous trip. It’s about 4 or 5 km outside the city on a small mountainside.

There was a cool brisk wind blowing and large clouds varying in hue from white to dark were rolling in some of them occasionally dropping rain. We climbed in the wrong direction and found a hiking trail that will require further investigation on another trip – when I have my hiking gear! We eventually found the path to the Acropolis and began another climb.

Pedasa was fortified town complex in the Carian region of Western Anatolia. It is one of several sites that bear witness to the legacy of Caria and Leleg people dating back to 3000 BCE. The view from the top of the Acropolis provides the reason why for the fortification and settlement: they could see the enemy coming long before they arrived.

On a clear day, one could see for miles and miles!

As one tourist web site noted, a trip to Bodrum wouldn’t be complete without visiting the windmills. Positioned on a high ridge of land, they were constructed in the 1800s to grind wheat into flour. They remained in use until the 1970s when they were replaced with more modern techniques of milling flour. Sadly, they have not been maintained and most of them are in a serious state of dilapidation. It’s a wonderful wind swept spot to visit offering wide vistas in every direction.

It was that time of day when the fresh air and sunshine and exercise results in the body saying “find me food”. So off we went, to a Chinese restaurant in a local mall.

We received a severe weather warning from our host. Heavy rains, flooding and possible tornados before morning so we ate and set out for our abode.

And that dear reader, is that for today. Thank you so much for travelling along and please feel free to comment, either here or by email. Until next time.
