Saturday April 2 was sun filled and the wind was definitely up! Randy kindly drove us to Fuseta for a walk along the beach. It was beautiful and exhilarating and the windsurfers or paraglides were out in full force.

Once I had my fill of sun, sea, sand and wind, we wended our way back to shore. On the way, Randy remarked that he hadn’t seen any hermit crabs yet…and low and behold, there that were. By the hundreds!

Fuseta is a traditional Portuguese seaside fishing village that is rapidly becoming a tourist destination. It’s wonderful to explore the narrow streets and I’m always intrigued by the ceramic tiles and the architecture.

Fuseta is also a salt producing area and we took a wander through the salt flats were traditional methods of sea salt production mingle with the modern. It’s an excellent area for observing shore birds, waders and flamingos.

Hottentot-fig plants produce vibrant flowers in pink and yellow. The fruit can be used to make jam, apparently. And finally, we said goodbye to Fuseta and headed home to Estoi.
