The last two full days in Istanbul were cold, wet and windy – rather gloomy in some respects. On Tuesday morning, we set out for the Royal Palace Museum not far from where we were staying. It seemed like a promising museum day. We arrived and were told our passes were not acceptable and we needed to purchase tickets AND no photography allowed. We discussed the situation for five seconds and decided against the tickets.

Instead, we opted to cross town via trams and visit a Venice-themed mall. The trams travel mostly above ground, so I saw parts of Istanbul many tourists never see. A surprise bonus was an extensive view of the ancient outer walls of Constantinople.

On the return trip, we made a stop at the Spice Market.

Wednesday was similar weather and I needed to get organized for the trip to Lisbon on Thursday. So, one last visit to Taksim Square and environs.

And so the adventure comes to an end Istanbul and will pick up again in Portugal.
