Blustery, rainy, fun

Monday February 02, 2026

Th unrelenting wind, the ominous clouds and the intermittent rain indicated that Monday would be a good day to explore our local town of Kalkan. It was once a fishing town and the only safe port between Kaş and Fethiye. In summer, the white-washed houses that spill down the slope of the mountain to the sea are covered in bougainvillea. At this time of year, not so much! There is a beach of a mix of sand and rocks with lots of boats dry-docked in the harbour for the winter. The recent rains had washed red soil down the mountain side, through the streets and drains of the town and out into the sea creating a clearly evident plume in the rough waters. The gulls rode the waves with elegance in the hope of finding a meal in the flotsam. The surf was definitely up.

After prowling the beach and the waterfront, it was definitely time for some hot Turkish chai served in clear glass beakers. A warm treat.

After a trip to the local grocery store, it was time to drive up the mountain to our lovely perch. We arrived in time for an unexpected break in the cloud cover and a dramatic sunset.

Thank you for reading! I am attempting to get caught up on my blogging. Life happens faster than I am able to keep track of it. Until next time!

    1. There have been a couple of nights when the wind was atrocious and the thunderstorms and rain literally blew past us on the side of the hill. So dramatic! Loving every minute of this trip.

  4. I think the weather there is similar to what it is in Portugal. Everything seems to be a little gray at times and quite wet. LOL this too shall pass. I am looking forward to some beautiful sunshiny pictures with blue skies and lots of little quirky things that I’m sure are around every corner. At least you have internet service. Keep having fun and tracking about and documenting your Explorations because some of us have to live vicariously through others, I will mention no names, that have the ability to travel far and wide in this world. LMAO love and hugs from me
