Birthdays come but once per year…thankfully

Monday February 09, 2026

Because it was my birthday, I decided I wanted to sleep in, have a leisurely morning doing nothing followed by a late lunch in Datรงa and a final promenade along the waterfront. In other words, I said, shag it, I’m taking the day off! We walked eastward towards a high point of land overlooking the bay past an abandoned hotel complex and various fisherfolk. Came across a tethered grazing cow. It was cool and windy and entirely glorious.

And there is an archaeological site on the edge of a fairly recent housing development – preserving the past/heritage and economic development collide. It seems odd to have a church connected to a bath house but in the 6th century, who knows?

There were poppies popping up everywhere and later there was cake and tea.

It all ended with a dramatic sunset. Here goes another turn around the sun! Thank you for reading. Until next time.
